The Seiko Watch Corporation has been a leader in high quality timepieces and fine jewelry since 1881. The watch company that has brought so many innovations to the world does so again with the kinetic Seiko watches line. Kinetic Seiko watches were the first to convert kinetic movement of the wearer into usable energy. This is another first in a long line of Seiko innovations that includes the first quartz watch, the first LCD watch, and the first multi-function digital watch.

The company first revealed kinetic Seiko watches at the Basel Fair in 1986. Kinetic Seiko watches were first called A.G.S. watches, which was short for automated power generating system. The energy of kinetic Seiko watches is just another platform for time keeping, much like mechanical or quartz movement. kinetic Seiko watches use capacitors instead of conventional batteries. These capacitors are designed to use the movement of the wearer to create electric energy. This method is a very accurate and environmentally friendly way to power a wristwatch. Consumers can enjoy years of use without the need to replace the batteries in their kinetic Seiko watches.

Kinetic Seiko watches have had many innovations and milestones over the last 20 years. The auto relay model was introduced in 1998. These kinetic Seiko watches could be left unworn for four years while still keeping time. This was an amazing feat for a timepiece that got it's power from the wearer's movement. The following year the kinetic Seiko watches line also added the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph. This timepiece uses a blend of kinetic and mechanical technologies. Kinetic Seiko watches expanded their line again in 2005 when they introduced the Kinetic Perpetual. These kinetic Seiko watches have a calendar feature added that will remain accurate until the year 2100.

The latest addition to the kinetic Seiko watches line is the Direct Drive watch. First made available in 2007, this watch combines kinetic power with classic mechanical movement. The wearer has the option of winding a crown on these kinetic Seiko watches, for fast power-ups when the watch runs all the way down. These kinetic Seiko watches build up electrical energy based on the wrist movements of the wearer. Most of the kinetic Seiko watches in this line have displays to show the power reserves for both kinetic and conventional energy. Kinetic Seiko watches have sold over 8 million units in the last two decades.
